(Since it’s Australia Day we thought this was fitting…there’s something very comforting about using something that’s home-grown.)
We don’t need to yearn for exotic ingredients from far off distant lands because we have them right here in the great land of Oz. We all know of tea tree oil, eucalyptus and macadamia oil but there are so many more.
From barks, plants, berries and nuts we are truly blessed by what is on offer and science is only just catching up to what Aboriginals have known for 1000’s of years.
Here is a little look at 6 of our favourite Australian ingredients. Which of these have you heard of before? Some are quite unknown!
Kakadu Plum
Kakadu Plum is the known to have the highest amount of vitamin C (3200 – 5000mg/100g) which is about 100 times more than an orange. This is good for our skin because Vitamin C is essential for collagen production. Kakadu Plum helps reduces wrinkles, improve skin texture and provide antioxidants that help to reduce skin damage caused by oxidative stress (free radicals). No wonder it is becoming an international star.
You’ll find it in the Perfectly Happy Anti-Ageing Cream and Raindrops on Roses Hydrating Tonic.
Grass Lily
Grass Lily is a traditional healing plant of Aborigines. It cools the skin and is great for evening skin tone and healing pesky blemishes. It hydrates, soothes and softens the skin.
You’ll find it in the Perfectly Happy Anti-Ageing Cream.
Quandong
Quandong was a favourite food of Aboriginals but it was also highly regarded for its healing properties. They even used the oil from the kernel as a hair treatment. Quandong contains Rutin which gives it higher anti-oxidants powers than Vitamin E. Rutin also helps stabilise vitamin C so Quandong and Kakadu Plum go together like peas and carrots. It also acts as an AHA which is great at reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
You’ll find it in the Perfectly Happy Anti-Ageing Cream.
Jalbi Bark
Jalbi Bark is very unknown and we were lucky enough to meet someone who told us about it. It is another traditional healing plant of the aboriginals. It is known as the medicine tree. Jalbi bark is great for healing blemishes, soothing and rejuvenating.
You’ll find it in the Perfectly Happy Anti-Ageing Cream.
Australian Blue Cypress
Australian Blue Cypress is a brilliant blue oil and is a great moisturiser and healer. It is it perfect for dry and aggravated skin as it has good soothing and anti-inflammatory powers. In the world of aromatherapy it is balancing, grounding and calming without being sedative making it perfect to ease frazzled nerves.
You’ll find it in the Tickled Pink Perfecting Tonic and Good Vibes Omega Facial Oil
Lemon Myrtle
Lemon Myrtle is growing in popularity because of its very uplifting and refreshing scent. It is also antibacterial properties stronger than Tea tree oil. With its cleansing and purifying abilities it is a great choice for people with oily or combination skin.
You’ll find it in the Cloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm.
There are many more like Aniseed Myrtle, Kunzea, Fragonia, Desert Lime and Davidson Plum but we will leave those for another day, as you probably need to get out and about to a BBQ or the beach.
Special Announcements
You may notice that theCloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm looks a little different. This is because it has become so very popular that we couldn’t keep producing it in small handmade batches, and we have changed the recipe slightly to allow us to make larger quantities and for it to be more consistent. The best way to describe the change is that it’s slightly creamier and easier to apply. It still feels just as wonderful on your skin with the same uplifting aroma leaving your skin refreshed and hydrated.
The Good Vibes Omega Oil has had a slight change in packaging. It used to come with a dropper but we have now switched to a pump so it is easier to use. The less juggling of glass bottles in the bathroom the better
Last but not least we originally added Black Seed Oil to our range temporarily to see if you liked it and it turns out you did so you will be seeing this anti-ageing, moisturising and restorative oil hanging out alongside Tamanu Oil for a while longer at least. We’re becoming very fond of it because it’s a natural anti-histamine, infection fighter and acne reducer, and very affordable!
